182,000 farmers in India committed suicide from 1997 to 2007 because of licensing fees?  That seems absurd because why would anyone kill themselves over debt?  Companies like Monsanto that have been cornering the market on seeds and seed banks are are attempting to control all farming in the US and overseas.  This story only scratches the surface of what may be the beginning of the end of diversity in our food supply.  The reason they kill themselves, the government will pay their families 100,000 rupes (about $2000 US).  The film Peepli Live tries to give a voice to the business of farming in India.
