HINT: Read the "CD-ROM DRIVERS 4 DOS" topic, also in MYTIPS95.TXT [part of W95-11D.ZIP] and MYTIPS31.TXT [part of W31-11D.ZIP], for more details. SHSUCDX.EXE v1.1a DOS mode CD-ROM EXtensions Driver [223 KB, freeware], replaces successfully Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM extensions driver (MSCDEX.EXE).
Open README.CDX with Notepad in Windows or EDIT.COM in DOS to learn its command line parameters. Then add a SHSUCDX line to Autoexec.bat (BEFORE the SMARTDRV line), and REMark your MSCDEX line. Reboot. SHSUCDX takes 11 KB of upper RAM (upper memory manager required in Config.sys) on systems with one CD-ROM drive (each additional CD-ROM drive requires 2.5 KB of RAM). Example:
LH C:CDROMSHSUCDX /D:MYCDROM,D,,1 MCDX.EXE [13 KB, free] replaces SHSUCDX v1.0d.

Your cd-rom drive name (MYCDROM above) MUST match EXACTLY the one on your cd-rom driver line in Config.sys!

Run NWCDEX /? from any DOS prompt for specific command line parameters. Then add a NWCDEX line to Autoexec.bat (BEFORE the SMARTDRV line), and REMark your MSCDEX line. Reboot. NWCDEX takes 1 KB of upper and 40-60 KB of expanded RAM (example):

An expanded memory manager (i.e. Microsoft HIMEM.SYS + EMM386.EXE with the RAM switch enabled) in Config.sys is required to load NWCDEX in expanded memory with the /E switch.
